Workbox, Workbooth or even Deepworkbooth?
While the terms „telephone booth“ and „meeting booth“ have established themselves relatively quickly as generic terms, there is still a lot of linguistic confusion when it comes to medium-sized acoustic cubes.
What do you call an acoustic cube that is larger than a telephone booth but smaller than a meeting booth? Some call them workbooths, others even call them deep workbooths. We think that the term „workbooths“ is the best way to describe this product category.
We think that the term „work boxes“ is the most appropriate!
What is a workbooth?
Work booths are acoustic cubes for one person and are designed for soundproofed, concentrated work. They are large enough to accommodate a table and seating and are therefore slightly larger than a telephone booth, in which you can only work standing up. In the ideal work booth, you can work undisturbed or take part in video conferences without disturbing the other people in the office.

What should you look out for when choosing a workbooth?
Discussions with our customers have revealed the following points to be particularly relevant when it comes to choosing a suitable workbooth:
- A workbooth is not a fully-fledged workstation: Workbooths are intended for concentrated work for a period of 1-2 hours. However, they are not suitable as permanent workstations - they do not fulfil the minimum legal requirements for the dimensions of office workstations. Apart from this, however, workbooths are very efficient in terms of their space requirements and can be used very effectively in open-plan offices in particular to increase concentration and therefore also productivity.
- Stool, sofa or swivel chair? The most compact workbooths are those with a stool - however, in our opinion, the ergonomic comfort of sitting on a stool is limited. Most of our customers therefore opt for a work booth with a sofa or swivel chair. A work booth with a sofa is still very compact, whereas a work booth with a swivel chair requires a little more space for „manoeuvring“. Customers who were initially rather critical of working from a sofa are now pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and ergonomic the sofa version actually is. This is because the sofas supplied have been specially optimised for work booths (seat height, seat depth and good backrest support).
- Height-adjustable table? Many customers want an (electrically) height-adjustable table in their work booth. This is possible in many cases, but cannot be combined with a sofa for practical reasons.
- Select the right sizeFull-size work booths with table and sofa or swivel chair have a width of between approx. 1.25m and 1.90m. Depending on the desired interior fittings and available space, there are potentially various models to consider. Conveniently, our work booth overview offers extensive filter options - also in terms of dimensions (see Workbooth overview).
- Plan for a screen mount: Many of the acoustic cubes we offer can be fitted with an integrated monitor mount. This little extra makes a lot of sense, especially for work booths, and should be taken into consideration.
- Ventilation and sound insulation: The two most important differentiating features of acoustic cubes are the technical values in terms of ventilation and sound insulation. There are sometimes significant differences here from manufacturer to manufacturer and from product series to product series, which are also reflected in the price. You can find corresponding filter options in our Workbooth overview.
