Telephone boxes and meeting boxes: Innovative solutions for modern production
Digitalisation is playing an increasingly important role in today's manufacturing plants and production facilities - and not just in terms of automation and process control, but also when it comes to communication. Video calls, Zoom meetings and online training have not only conquered the office world, but have also become indispensable in many areas of production.
This is where telephone boxes and meeting boxes prove to be indispensable tools for creating soundproofed retreats and communication spaces directly where they are particularly needed. In this article, we show how the compact, soundproofed and partially mobile acoustic cubes can significantly improve everyday working life in production.

Why telephone and meeting boxes are used in production!
Production halls are often characterised by a high noise level - this makes communication difficult both in direct conversations and during telephone or even video calls. Phone boxes, meeting boxes and any other type of acoustic cube provide a remedy here by effectively shielding against ambient noise, enabling clear and undisturbed conversations and creating a quiet atmosphere in which employees can focus better on specific tasks. On the other hand, the soundproofing also ensures that confidential conversations remain private - a great advantage for a variety of discussion occasions for which there is often a lack of suitable rooms in production.
Although almost every production hall also has an office wing with meeting rooms or similar, the creation of flexible retreat options directly in the hall significantly shortens distances and time requirements. And that's not all: inhibitions about certain services are also reduced if they can be used directly on site.
The many possible applications of acoustic cubes in production
Based on our experience, we provide some insights below into the purposes for which acoustic cubes are typically used successfully in production:

- Virtual meetings for production employeesAcoustic cubes allow production employees to easily participate in virtual meetings or video calls without being disturbed by production noise - even with several people at the same time, depending on the size of the box.
- Regular team meeting / shift meeting: Larger acoustic cubes create spaces for regular, short team meetings, such as those typically held during shift handovers, daily team updates, quality management meetings or as part of production-related optimisation projects.
- System commissioning, fault analysis: During the installation of new machines or during ongoing operation, it is often considered very valuable to be able to exchange information with other experts via video call if required - soundproofed thanks to a suitable acoustic box and within direct reach of the production system concerned and the employees working there.
- Make a phone call in peace: No matter where a telephone or meeting box is used - once set up, it usually becomes an employee magnet all by itself and is a much sought-after place to be as soon as the phone rings. This applies to almost all application scenarios and therefore also in production.
- Training in the hall officeAcoustic cubes also offer an ideal space for online training courses or webinars, which can take place directly in the production environment with soundproofing. This is also where the issue of inhibitions comes into play: If the training offer comes directly to the employee in the hall, there is a better chance that this offer will be utilised.
- One-to-one employee appraisals: Acoustic cubes are also suitable for conversations with employees that are better held undisturbed and not in front of the entire team.
- Use as part of occupational health and safety management: An acoustic cube can also be successfully integrated into the regular processes of occupational health and safety management. A company doctor who comes directly to production and finds a soundproofed room for confidential discussions on site can certainly reach more employees than in her office.

Which telephone and meeting boxes are particularly suitable for use in production?
Unfortunately, we don't have a general recommendation for acoustic cubes in production - it always depends on the exact application. How loud is the production environment really? What is the main purpose of the application? Should the box be easy to move?
Not all production is the same - which is why acoustic cubes in a normal office design are sometimes sufficient to be used sensibly in production (e.g. sound insulation of the category ★★★☆☆). However, many acoustic cubes from our range are particularly suitable for use in production due to certain selection criteria. On the one hand, there is particularly good sound insulation (sound insulation ★★★★☆ and ★★★★★) and on the other hand there are forklift-compatible model variants or variants in fire protection design (see special features "Fire protection version available" and "Suitable for forklift trucks“).

Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are looking for solutions exactly as you outline them. The question now would be, can the cubes also be moved? I'm thinking of mobile modules on wheels - which, like a flipchart stand or pram, can of course also be fixed in place. That would be a great advantage in times of change - and lack of space.
Thank you for your feedback and best regards,
Lisa Blum
Hello Lisa,
We very much understand the desire for mobility! The best and most flexible solution we can currently offer is the forklift version of certain cubes, where the cubes are placed directly on a suitable metal frame. For stability reasons, however, this is only possible for the smaller models. The larger the model (and the better the insulation), the heavier acoustic cubes become - meeting cubes can sometimes weigh over 1,000 kg and are therefore in the region of a car. That's why the idea of using castors is not quite as easy to realise as with flipchart stands and is only practical to a limited extent for safety reasons - do we need cubes with brakes then?
We offer some models with integrated furniture castors so that the cubes can be moved on the level with relatively little assembly effort. However, this requires some expertise and should only be carried out by specialised personnel. The steps are roughly as follows:
The exact procedure varies slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer.
We would like to understand what the underlying problem of the question is - maybe there are other possibilities (besides mobility/roles) that promise flexibility.
Best regards
